How to Fold and Unfold the Swivelmate

The one thing knee walkers must do well is to provide you with freedom of mobility during your lower leg injury recovery. It should help you continue to do business as usual. Thus, your knee walker must be easy to transport—so that you can keep moving around your home, go to work, school, parties, vacations, etc.
Unlike other models out there, the Swivelmate was engineered to fold and unfold quickly and with ease—no tools required. This is advantageous when you continuously need to be in a car and bring it along with you. You'll especially appreciate its compact folding when you have loads of groceries, boxes, or many other personal items in your vehicle. You want your car doors or trunk to close with ease to prevent damaging your vehicle or scooter.
Folding your Swivelmate is also useful when you to need to stow it away when not in use. Below is a video showing you how to perform the process, followed additionally by detailed text instructions.
How To Fold The Swivelmate
Step 1. Lock the Brakes
Engage both parking breaks by pushing the handles forward to lock into place. This will prevent the knee walker from rolling away.
Step 2. Remove the Basket
If you are using a basket, remove it by lifting the basket to disengage it from the bracket hooks on the steering column.
Step 3. Lower The Steering Column
Turn the Quick Folding Release Knob two to three turns until the Steering Column loosens and can rotate freely.
Then, lower the Steering Column and tuck it underneath the Knee Rest. Finally, tighten the knob to lock the column into place. Make sure the folding mechanism "teeth" interlock.
When handling the Swivelmate in its folded position, we recommend you hold it with both hands from the main frame. Holding it like this will provide more stability and security when carrying it.
Long Term Storage
You may want to store the knee walker long term while you await another surgery—or thankfully—you don't need it anymore. When this is the case, you can fold and configure it in a way that it takes even less storage space. We'll go over this procedure on a future blog post.
How to Unfold the Swivelmate
Once you arrive at your destination or when taking it out of storage—this is how to unfold your Swivelmate.
Step 1. Unlock and Raise The Steering Column
Turn the Quick Folding Release Knob two to three turns until the Steering Column loosens and can rotate freely. Pull it away from underneath the Knee Rest, and raise it vertically. Then, turn the Quick Folding Release Knob until its finger tight. Make sure the folding mechanism "teeth" interlock.
Step 2. Add Basket If Desired
Align the vertical slots in the basket with the bracket on the steering column. Then slide down the basket into the bracket hooks.
Step 3. Unlock the Brakes
Mount yourself on the unit, then disengage the breaks. Pull handles towards you. Your Swivelmate is now properly unfolded, and you're ready to go!
