How to Rent a Knee Scooter for Theme Parks in Orlando
- The Orlando tourist district is undergoing an enormous transformation. When it comes to theme parks, there have been several significant new additions during recent years, which means more to see, more to enjoy. To name a few: Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, two Harry Potter lands: Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade; Volcano Bay, and the upcoming new theme park by Universal, Epic Universe.
If you've suffered from a foot injury right before traveling, or you've injured yourself during your stay here in Orlando, the fun does not have to stop. It may seem like the end of the world because you've been looking forward to a memorable vacation and dread missing out on all the fun. But do not despair.
In this article, we will explain how to overcome this setback and make the best of it with the aid of a knee scooter.
We will explain:
Can you use a knee scooter at Orlando theme parks?
No trip to Orlando is complete with a visit to one of the many theme parks, whether it be Disney, Universal, Sea World, Legoland, or Busch Gardens.
The big question is, can you use a knee scooter (also called knee walkers) at any of these theme parks?
The great news is—yes—all major theme parks do allow knee scooters (also referred to as knee walkers) in their property. Other allowed mobility aid devices include: wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, ECV, and knee scooters (also called knee walkers.)
We discuss this topic more in-depth in our guide below:

Knee Scooters vs. Wheelchairs, Crutches, and ECV
For this article, we will assume you have a below the knee injury.
There are many options available to get around—not only just on theme parks—but also everywhere you go outside the parks (hotel, malls, restaurants, etc.)
But before talking about the advantages of knee scooters (also referred to as knee walkers), let's discuss the pros and cons of alternate mobility aids.
The popular options for getting around parks are crutches, wheelchairs, and ECV (the electric carts). After examining many customer testimonials, the following seems to be the consensus among many.
WheelchairsThe issue with wheelchairs is that you need another person to push you around. You lose your freedom, and you have to inconvenience another person unnecessarily to push your around. And, rolling yourself is just simply unrealistic.
CrutchesSpeaking unrealistic, we have your other option: crutches. Unless you are someone like The Rock with incredible upper body strength, using crutches to get around a vast theme park will be torture.
ECVElectric conveyance vehicles (ECV) are a popular way to get around the parks. It's fun to drive around the cart and travel around with zero effort. Many parks, such as Disney, have them available for rent inside their parks, but they have a few but significant disadvantages.
Depending on how busy the park is, ECV's tend to be rented all out early in the day. There is no guarantee that you'll be able to rent one. Secondly, you are not allowed to take them outside the property. This becomes an issue if you're park hopping. You'll need to return it at the counter, then rent out a new one at your new destination. Again, there's no guarantee one will be available.
If you rent an ECV from an outside provider, transporting it will be quite the task. To get the heavy unit in and out of your car or bus will require a few extra hands.
Finally, we have knee scooters. These will be your best overall option for providing you with comfort and mobility not only during your theme park visits, but your whole stay in Orlando. Remember, you still need to get around outside the parks—hotels, malls, restaurants, etc.
Knee Scooters
The biggest advantage knee scooters provide is the ability to be independent and move around with ease and comfort, without inconveniencing anyone and having to carry a tank along with you as you go out and about.
Some people advocate taking an ECV plus knee scooter hybrid solution. They would rent a knee scooter for use throughout their whole stay. When they arrive at the park, they rent an ECV to get around. Some will ask the rental clerks to store the knee walker, or some will fold and strap them to the back of their ECV. The obvious drawback of this is the added expense of renting the ECV.
Although, many folks describe being perfectly fine with getting around solely on a knee scooter around the parks. But other people complain about getting tired and uncomfortable quickly when using a knee scooter — the reason for this is they're using the wrong tool for the job.
All theme parks have rough concrete surfaces. Miles and miles of it. Full with bumps, cracks, and uneven surfaces.
So what is a knee scooter model best fit for this terrain?
What is the Best Knee Scooter for Theme Parks?
Knee scooters have come a long way since the early 2000s. More features and functionality have been added with each generation—with more emphasis being put on user comfort as of late.
The model we recommend for theme park use is a Orthomate All Terrain Knee Scooter.
Orthomate All-Terrain Knee Walker by TKWC
All-terrain models have large, air-filled rubber wheels that will absorb all the shock from the concrete's bumps and cracks. This will ensure you have a smooth and comfortable ride as you go through miles of pavement.
We would also recommend adding an extra level of shock-absorption. By adding a knee pad cover to the scooter's knee rest, it will add extra comfort to your resting leg.
We recommend the Comfy Cushion Knee Pad Cover , which will help with the sweat from the Florida heat.
Having all these optimizations, along with proper sizing, will ensure you effortlessly travel long distances comfortably with your knee walker.
